WORLD IT STRATEGY CONFERENCE 2009

The maiden World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WISTA) conference opened on the 21st of April 2009 at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, Nigeria. The conference which is holding in Nigeria for the very first time is at the instance of the National IT Developments agency (NITDA), Information Technology association of Nigeria (ITAN).

With the theme “Advancing the Dynamics of ICT Policy engineering for e-government (ADIPENG) the conference has support and endorsement from the World Bank, Zenith Bank, Federal Ministries of Science and Technology, as all as that of Information and Communications. ADIPENG 2009 was declared open by WITSA Chairman, Dr. Dato Dan E Khoo who arrived with his delegates on Monday 20th April. WITSA is a consortium of 70 IT Industry associations from economies around the world.

Dr Khao is also the chief executive officer of WCIT 2008 Sdn Bhn, the company formed to organize WITSA’s 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2008) in Kuala Lumpur on May 18th to 22nd, 2008. As CEO, he was responsible for all areas of WCIT 2008, from strategic to operational. In this role Khoo brought his experience to turn WCIT 2008 into an event that was declared by WITSA as the best ever in 30 years, with more than 3, 313 delegates registered and 42, 659 expos visitors from 92 countries. 105 prominent personalities spoke and ICT ministers from 35 countries were present during the event.

WCIT 2008 also raised over $11 million in sponsorships, the most in the History of the world congress. He has traveled around the world and has significant interactions with policy makers, national and regional ICT associations, senior business leaders, as well as civil society participants to create a platform that can showcase ICT’s power to enable, empower and enrich. He has also spoken widely in National and International events including the 10th World Congress on information Technology (WCIT 1996) in Bilbao, Spain.
